Alarmy alternatives: 5 iPhone alarm apps that wake you differently

Every app here replaces the plain alarm sound with something that makes getting up more likely. They differ in what that something is: a mission, a lighter sleep phase, a plan, or a voice with your day in it.

Updated · by the TARS team, I12Y LTD

Alarmy stops ringing only after a mission such as math, squats or a photo, and bundles a sleep and snore tracker. If missions are not for you, Sleep Cycle rings in a light sleep phase, Rise plans your wake time from sleep debt, Weky is a leaner mission alarm, and TARS wakes you with a voice that reads your day.

What Alarmy does well, and why people look elsewhere

Alarmy is the biggest name in this category for a reason. Its App Store page lists 248,000 ratings and a 4.8 average, the mission list is long, and the premium tier adds a sleep and snore tracker. If a mission is what you need, it is the safe pick.

The complaints that send people looking are consistent. The download is about 235 MB. The premium menu lists ten purchase options with overlapping names, so it is hard to know what you are buying. And a mission at six in the morning feels like a punishment to some people, which is a fine reason to want a gentler alarm or one that gives you a reason to get up rather than a task.

Pick by why you oversleep

Does it ring through Silent? Ask about AlarmKit

Until iOS 26, only Apple's Clock app could ring through the Silent switch and Focus modes. Third-party alarms were notifications with a short sound, or apps that had to stay open. In iOS 26 Apple added AlarmKit, which gives other apps the same system alarm the Clock uses.

Of the five apps here, TARS states on its App Store page that it is built on AlarmKit. Weky requires iOS 26 but does not say. Alarmy, Sleep Cycle and Rise support older iOS versions and do not mention it. Whatever you choose, run one test alarm with the Silent switch on and a Focus active before you rely on it. Price, side by side

All five are free to install and all five sell a subscription. Alarmy and Sleep Cycle gate most of the interesting features behind premium. Weky is the cheapest at $2.99 a month and the only one with a lifetime price. Rise is the most expensive and is really a sleep programme with an alarm attached. TARS keeps the alarm, the spoken wake-up and an on-device briefing free; TARS+ pays for the briefing in the agent's real voice and the wake-up check.

FAQ

Is there a free alternative to Alarmy?

Yes. Each app in this list has a free tier. Weky's missions, Sleep Cycle's basic alarm and the TARS alarm with its spoken wake-up are free. Apple's own Clock app is free and rings through Silent, but it has no missions and no voice.

Which Alarmy alternative rings through silent mode on iPhone?

Apps built on Apple's AlarmKit in iOS 26 do, because they use the same system alarm as the Clock app. TARS states that it is built on AlarmKit. For the others, check the App Store page or test with the Silent switch on.

Which alarm app has no snooze button?

TARS has no snooze: the voice asks a question and waits, and TARS+ rings again if you are not up. Alarmy and Weky keep snooze but let you disable it or make it conditional on a mission.

Is Alarmy Premium worth it?

If you use the sleep and snore tracker and several missions, probably. If you only need one mission to dismiss, the free tier or a cheaper app like Weky covers it.

Why do some alarm apps fail to ring on iPhone?

Before iOS 26 a third-party alarm was a notification or a sound from an app kept open, and Silent, Focus or iOS closing the app could stop it. AlarmKit alarms are scheduled by the system and ring with the app closed.

Want an alarm that talks instead of testing you?

TARS wakes you by name and reads your day. Free alarm, AlarmKit, no account. iPhone with iOS 26.1 or later.
